Renata Olafson Selzer serves on the board of directors for Icelandic Roots. Renata was raised on the Olafson family farm near Mountain, ND. Her great-grandparents emigrated from Iceland to the United States in 1883 and homesteaded the land that Renata’s father and uncle still farm today. Renata grew up learning about her Icelandic heritage. She has many fond memories of her amma, who spoke fluent Icelandic and made some of the best vínarterta, kleinur, and
pönnukökur one could ever have.
In 2003, Renata graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN with degrees in English Writing and Sociology. She went on to law school at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, graduating with a Juris Doctor degree in 2006. With a passion for criminal law and law enforcement, she has worked as a prosecuting attorney since 2007. She lives in the Fargo area with her husband and two children.
