Icelanders and Their Connection to Utah and the West

Updated: Jul 26, 2021

Dear Friends,

I would like to invite you to register and attend the upcoming BYU Conference, "Icelanders and their Connection to Utah and the West", held September 9th-13th (see icelander.byu.edu). The conference will be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our Icelandic heritage and history and to meet and build relationships with Icelanders. The mayor of Vestmanneyjar will be attending as well as a group from the Icelandic National League of Iceland, among others. I will be attending and presenting and would love to see you there!

The $39.00 registration fee includes: a delicious banquet dinner, enriching educational lectures, entertainment by the Geslison family and BYU student performers, special screenings of both Andy Geslison's documentary as well as "Fire on Ice", and a Saturday lunch in Spanish Fork hosted by the IAU. Registration can be done online at this link: http://ce.byu.edu/cw/icelander/register.php

The purpose of the conference is to commemorate the first Icelandic settlers in North America who arrived in Spanish Fork, Utah, in September 1855, and to educate the public about the Icelanders who immigrated and settled in Utah and the West.

Please remember to register before the deadline, Tuesday September 1st. Additional information, including a detailed schedule and registration information can be found at icelander.byu.edu.

Thank you for your membership in the Icelandic Association of Utah. I look forward to an enriching experience with many of you at the conference!

Lacey Nielson President, Icelandic Association of Utah
