Have you ever used Zoom? It is a great online tool for business meetings and training sessions.
We have been using it at Icelandic Roots for over a year to teach new members how to use the database. With live video and audio, chat, screenshare, and free access, it is the next best thing to being together in the same room.
Last summer, we started using it in Icelandic National League of North America committee meetings and tonight, we held a “practice meeting” for the INLNA Board of Directors. Beginning with our first official meeting in June, we will be “Zooming” for our meetings. It is exciting to try this new collaboration method with the INLNA.
Over the course of tonights practice meeting, 14 people signed in and it was awesome! Thanks: Gwen G., Candice, David, Angel, Alicyn, Ron, John, Gwen M., Cindy, Shawn, Maria, Erna, Bev, and Sunna. We had lots of smiles and engagement — definitely a success! 🙂
Here is one photo of my computer. Some board nembers who are familiar with the program did not join us for this practice session. There are a few who have not tried it yet, either. Zoom allows phone connections into the meeting for those who may need that method but we hope everyone will join via Zoom.
It is not necessary to have a Zoom account to join a Zoom meeting from another person’s invitation but Zoom is free and a great way to connect.
This online tool will help us in many ways but the most important is communicating across multiple time-zones and countries. During our business meetings, we can interact in real time, see others on our team, get to know each other, share our screens, chat, and accomplish the mission of the INLNA.
I am really enjoying our Zoom connections and look forward to more people joining in on the fun at our June Board meeting.
