The 2021 Icelandic Roots Fitness Challenge is now over. We had fun sharing photographs and encouragement with each other while virtually traveling either the Ring Road and/or Golden Circle of Iceland. As various milestones were passed, a "virtual postcard" (email) was sent to people, which included a picture and information about that location. It was 8 weeks of fun, fitness and community during our only fundraising project of the year. We hope you will join us for our 2022 fitness challenge!
The cost of each mission is $20 USD. There is also a link to donate additional funds to support Icelandic Roots’ charitable activities including the Snorri program, Icelandic scholarship and local heritage grants, supporting and hosting cultural and educational events, and much more.
To celebrate our seven years of Icelandic Roots, we will hold a random drawing of prizes for seven lucky participants.
How to register:
Step 1. Choose your mission.
The Ring Road of Iceland - Route 1 (Þjóðvegur 1) is the primary highway that goes around Iceland, connecting most of the inhabited parts of the country. The Ring Road route is approximately 835 miles (1343 kilometers).

The Golden Circle - (Gullni hringurinn) is a tourist route connecting three popular attractions that lie within 100 kilometers of the capital, Reykjavík. These attractions are Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss waterfall. The Golden Circle route is approximately 56 miles (90 kilometers). Step 2. Set up your team.
Send an email to 21challenge@icelandicroots.com with your team name and the names of all your team members. If you are doing the mission solo and do not wish to have a team name, you may skip this step.
Note: Once the team reaches the finish line, the mission is over. So, choose your team size wisely. You may also sign up to do the other mission if you would like to continue the fitness challenge.
Step 3. On June 12th, start your mission.
Remember, you do not need to go to the gym in order to participate.
You can find out how many miles/km your day-to-day activities equal by using the activity conversion chart at myvirtualfitness.com and apply them to your mission.
There are two ways to enter your exercise distances into your mission page. First, manually enter via either the website or the My Virtual Mission smartphone app. Second, your exercise can be automatically entered by syncing with your favorite fitness app such as Fitbit, Strava, Map My Run/Ride/Walk/Fitness. Either way, your progress will be updated to show your position along the mission path and you'll get to see just how far you've gone and how far you’ve got to go.
As you progress around the route, virtual postcards will be emailed to you at various points of interest with information about people, places, or events that occurred nearby. If you happen to be positioned on a road, you can check out your virtual surroundings on Google Street View.
Support Icelandic Roots by joining our mission, build fitness and have fun with your family and friends while enjoying a virtual tour of Iceland.

They wound up falling a bit short, but there was a lot to take away and if these titans square off with the stakes at their highest, itl be a fight for the ages. The opponent tonight will be the Charlotte Hornets. After a good run, things are starting to trend backwards. They lost on Wednesday night at home to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The …
