Celebrating 7 Magical Years!
Here at Icelandic Roots, we are marking 7 years of preserving, promoting and educating about Icelandic heritage, culture and language. Despite many worries and strife in the world this year, we have some great reasons to celebrate:
In 2020 we gave out $12,500 in donations and grants to heritage groups in the US, Canada, and Iceland.
Since 2013 we've donated more than $102,500 in grants and scholarships.
Our volunteer team continues to grow with members in the US, Canada, Iceland, Brazil and Australia!
We've added over 21,800 pieces of media into the database, including photos, obituaries, newspaper clippings, and more!
We continue to create new features for our members, such as the biweekly "Samtal Hour" for our members to meet each other and talk genealogy and memories.
We're also working on the "Icelandic Roots Podcast" which will launch in 2021.
Watch the latest IR video covering our shared community history.
Thank you, our supporters, friends, and family.

Support your Icelandic community
We are a 100% non-profit organization run by a dedicated team of volunteers.
Over the past 7 years your membership has helped us "pay-it-forward" by awarding over $102,500 USD in scholarships and heritage grants!
Grant recipients have included: The Snorri Programs, Icelandic Camp, The New Iceland Heritage Museum, the Grund Cemetery Restoration Project, the East Iceland Immigration Center (Vesturfaramiðstöð), and more.
We also award scholarships to participants of the Snorri Program and Icelandic camp, as well as students enrolled in Icelandic language programs.
"...Happy New Year to your awesome team. You have been such a "lifeline" during this time of isolation! I have learned so much about my Icelandic heritage, traditions, food! Just hoping that there really will be "life after COVID" & I can fulfill a life-long dream of visiting Iceland in the near future."
Patricia Burks, 2021
