The Icelandic National Handball Team 2022 European Championship

by Helga Margrét Reinhardsdóttir

Iceland played an important Championship Round game tonight against Denmark in the European Championships. They had won all three matches in the first round, against The Netherlands, Portugal, and Hungary. They took with them 2 points into the main round where they first played Denmark, the World Champs, tonight. They played great and up until the very end, played level with Denmark.

They will play on Jan 22nd against France, the Olympic Champs, and then on the 24th against Croatia.

Five players were unable to play tonight as they tested positive for Covid-19. One of the Iceland referees also tested positive for Covid. The players have little to no symptoms according to reports.

President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson attended the match against Denmark tonight and will also be in France on January 22nd for that match. Here is a highlight reel from the European Handball Association. You can watch the next games on EHFTV found here.

Icelandic Roots Members will receive a special Members-Only email with the IR#s of the players so they can learn more about them and their connections.
