Summer is almost here!! It’s a season we all look forward to. What are your summer plans? Are you travelling near or far? What about traveling through Iceland? Maybe you’ve been to Iceland before, but have you travelled the entire country or just Reykjavik?  We’ve a great suggestion.  Join us for our Cultural Crossroads, our annual fundraising event!!

For this year’s fundraiser, Icelandic Roots has curated an eight-week virtual journey around Iceland and the Ring Road focusing on our theme of Icelandic Art and Culture. It begins on June 14th, the Saturday before Iceland’s National Day of June 17th, and is open until August 9th, the weekend after August the Deuce and Islendingadagurinn celebrations. Participants can choose to travel through Iceland as an individual, form their own team, or join an Icelandic Roots team.

This is for everyone!! You do not have to be of Icelandic descent nor be a member of Icelandic Roots to participate. This journey is for anyone who is interested in helping to support the charitable work of Icelandic Roots. In turn, your support ensures our mission of preserving and promoting the Icelandic heritage remains steadfast. Some of the ongoing activities include the Snorri program, Icelandic scholarships, and local heritage grants. You can read about these activities in our free bi-weekly newsletter, Rætur Fréttir or Roots News. (Click the title to sign-up.)

As this is our one fundraising event of the year, there is a small registration fee of $25 USD. Participants who wish to do so are welcome to donate an additional amount, perhaps $10, $25, or $50, or what you feel is suitable.

We remain forever grateful and thank you for this support. Without you, we couldn't do what we do.

Our journey begins at The Einar Jónsson Sculpture Museum next to Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík then continue traveling clockwise around Iceland. Our trek is complete once we return to Harpa in Reykjavik.

You might be asking yourself, how does one walk the entire Ring Road during these eight weeks?  First off, you don’t need to start on day one; you can begin your trek at anytime during these eight weeks. And, all your daily activities are logged towards reaching the next milepost.

So now you simply have to decide if you’re going to trek the Ring Road on your own or are you going to do it as a team, either your own team or join the Icelandic Roots team.

Help support Icelandic Roots’ mission while you travel Iceland virtually and learn about the Cultural Crossroads of Iceland.
