Calling one and all! It's time! Registration is under way for this year's Fitness Challenge. Tighten your laces and let's get moving!
Our only fundraiser, the IR Fitness Challenge, is now open for registration. The start date for our virtual event is June 17th, ending on August 12th. You can register at any time, even if the challenge has begun.
The cost of each mission is $25 USD for each individual participating, whether you are part of a team or doing it alone. Remember, this is to raise funds to help us “pay it forward” by awarding scholarships and heritage grants.
How to register:
Step 1. Choose your mission.
The North American Experience - This mission travels from Shawano County, Wisconsin to Winnipeg, Manitoba for a distance of 832.8 miles (1340 kilometers). Your team would need to average 14.9 mi/ 24 km per day to complete the mission.

New Iceland - This mission travels from Gimli to Hecla Island in Manitoba and is 56.7 miles/ 91.2 kilometers. Your team would need to average 1mi/ 1.6 km per day to complete the mission.

Step 2. Set up your team.
Send an email to 23challenge@icelandicroots.com with your team name and the names of all your team members. You may skip this step if you are doing the mission solo and do not wish to have a team name.
Note: Once the team reaches the finish line, the mission is over. So, choose your team size wisely. You may also sign up to do the other mission if you want to continue the fitness challenge.
Step 3. On June 17th, start your mission.
You will be sent an email to let you know that the Fitness Challenge has begun and you may begin to enter your distances.
This challenge is for everyone anywhere!
You do not need to be an athlete or go to the gym to participate!
Tracking your activities:
This is a way to connect with family, friends, or members of your community. You can find out how many miles/kilometers your day-to-day activities are equal to by using the activity conversion chart on the My Virtual Mission website at: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1esGyCBnzSQtdAWMQl722lOBWJf1GQL8l/view
and applying them to your mission.
There are two ways to enter your exercise distances into your mission page. First, manually enter via the website (above link) or the My Virtual Mission smartphone app. Second, your exercise can be automatically entered by syncing with your favorite fitness app, such as Fitbit, Strava, Map My Run/Ride/Walk/Fitness. Either way, your progress will be updated to show your current position along the mission path. You'll see just how far you've gone and how far you have left to go.
