Summer Fitness Challenge 2.0 - Travel Iceland Virtually

Updated: Aug 7, 2021

The 2021 Icelandic Roots Fitness Challenge is now over. We had fun sharing photographs and encouragement with each other while virtually traveling either the Ring Road and/or Golden Circle of Iceland. As various milestones were passed, a "virtual postcard" (email) was sent to people, which included a picture and information about that location. It was 8 weeks of fun, fitness and community during our only fundraising project of the year. We hope you will join us for our 2022 fitness challenge!

We hope you will join us for our 2022 fitness challenge!

Icelandic Roots is pleased to announce we will host our second annual Fitness Challenge this summer. It will be an eight-week event and will run from June 12th (the weekend before the June 17th Icelandic National Day) to August 7th (the weekend after the Deuce of August and Íslendingadagurinn).

This will be a virtual challenge using the “My Virtual Mission” platform. Participants will have the choice between two routes:

  • The Ring Road of Iceland - Route 1 (Þjóðvegur 1) is the primary highway that goes around Iceland, connecting most of the inhabited parts of the country. The Ring Road route is approximately 830 miles (1330 kilometers).

  • The Golden Circle - (Gullni hringurinn) is a tourist route connecting three popular attractions that lie within 100 kilometers of the capital, Reykjavík. These attractions are Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss waterfall. The Golden Circle route is approximately XXX miles (XXXX kilometers.

Participation is open to everyone! You do not need to be Icelandic or a current member of Icelandic Roots to participate. You can join as an individual or form a team.

This is a fun way to get family and friends to engage in physical activity while enjoying Iceland virtually. Your support helps the Icelandic Roots mission to preserve, promote and educate people about Icelandic heritage, culture, and language. The participation fee covers the cost of the program and goes to support Icelandic Rotos grants and scholarships.

Each route costs $20USD per person.

More information will be available on May 1st about where and how to sign up for our challenge. Subscribe to our blog to be the first to know updates or check back on our website www.Icelandicroots.com, on Instagram and Facebook.
