Lee-Anne is a new volunteer from the UK who assists with the IR Book Club. She is not Icelandic, but she has an intense passion for the country, its beauty, and its literature.
She first visited Iceland in October 2015 with her husband, Jon, and their two teenage daughters, a one-off, bucket-list trip in the hope of seeing the Northern Lights. Not long after arriving home, the yearning to go back set in. In the meantime, Lee-Anne read Ragnar Jónasson’s Snowblind, her first taste of Icelandic noir. Between that book and the earlier trip, a love for all things Iceland was cemented. The following October she and her family travelled around Iceland, completing the Ring Road.
Lee-Anne read all the Icelandic books in translation that she could get her hands on. She soon discovered the Icelandic Roots Book Club and became a regular participant, finding people who share her love of Iceland and its literature in its many forms. Recently she has become a volunteer, co-hosting alongside the Book Club’s main host, Heather Lytwyn.
A keen reader of all genres, Lee-Anne has attended the Iceland Noir festival a few times and in 2026 is adding IceCon. Her keen eye and her familiarity with Iceland, built over more than twenty visits, have led authors and publishers to call on her for beta reading and proofreading, and she often receives advance copies of Iceland-related books.
Lee-Anne continues to learn the difficult but beautiful Icelandic language, hoping that one day she will read the books that do not get translated.
She is also a keen mobile-phone photographer, though she credits Iceland’s beauty rather than any skill of her own. As she puts it, it is hard to take a step there without being offered a beautiful shot.
